MAN CRIES SKULLS : Corpus Christi, TX
Dia de los Muertos is a big celebration in South texas and not just by those whose heritage is linked in with Mexico. Just how Cinco De may has become the American Battle Cry for Fiesta, Dia De los Muertos resurrects the pagan in everybody… it touches the area of humanity that is mystical.
The Jupiter Lotus Art Gallery is in preparation for its first formal city wide exhibited that is proposed to take place our favorite downtown haunt THE LIZARD LOUNGE as part of the next Corpus Christi ART WALK.
We hope to be presenting OSBORNE, Sarah Eckols, and Eddie Herrera among others like new Jupiter Lotus partner: Doug Tash.

Today, I celebrate my birthday. Why? Because… they told me too. Gearing up and getting ready for the weekend. The art gallery now has collected a few hundred oak cabinet doors that when reversed make a great little picture frame. I am going to be pushing the live artists to start working with wood. This morning our neighbor The Tango Tea Room will be donating an URN of HOT TEA to our LIVE ART SHOWS.
This week I begin a new phase of show building at Studio 111. HARD CORE MUSIC SHOWS. There are no comedy clubs in CC and that is why I opened an underground comedy shop. There is no independent cine in town and so I show movies. I have an art gallery for artists who have never been in a gallery before. All of these things were part of the after effect of creating EL SEGUNDO. A creative explosion in the hearts and minds of many who so choose to be part of things bigger than Kanye West.
CORPITOS,TX: SIX POINTS George Lopez, owner of Sublime Dive Bar and father of 23, was among the comedians listed performing on The Stand Up Comedy Night at Sublime 1606 South Staples. CORPITOS, TX
Still in the search of why and how the underbelly world of EL SEGUNDO works, I moved here to the Coastal Bend of Texas to experience Art and Culture first hand. It has been an amazing journey which just recently has been threatened by certain financial instabilities. My “assholeness” in particular is the direct cause of my studio spaces to be right on the verge of success and extinction. With al lthis being said I am trudging forward. And Trudge is the right description. Just made it through a historic drought, am about to start displaying my historic photos (NINE ELEVEN) in my gallery as part of THE LIVE ART SHOW I am hosting this weekend. Last one went off better than expected. Keeping the faith and juggling within a sea of circumstance.
It was the goal of Hank and I that somehow in the long run our visiting South Texas would result in an Art explosion for all the Texans living in The Magic Valley.
AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT:
Roy Trejo: A Stand Up Guy
DIVE INTO THE SUBLIME at SUBLIME DIVE BAR this Sunday Night. STAND UP COMEDY. I will be opening up with some witty reflections on life here in The Body of Christ, TX. REFLECTIONS and MERE CONNECTIONS
Today is my Mom’s Birthday (RIP):
It was an essay about me Mum that got me into Southwestern University into the Theatre Department from the barrio of Alice, Texas. It was her way of living that struck me most. So simple and thoroughly powerful, I recall. To me that is when I feel most with the Universe; in things that are simple and powerful. The subject of the essay was her funeral. She transcended on Thanksgiving Day. My mother was a simple woman and an orphan who raised eight children. Her funeral had the Catholic church filled to capacity. All my buddies to my surprise asked for permission from school to be there and shake my hand. When I returned to the football locker room one of the toughest of our coaches looked me straight in the eyes and gave me the consolation that it was O.K. to quit. But it is never O.K. to quit. Ever.
I committed myself to her memory in all of the things I did. She was simple and powerful. Today, in eternity she rests, and here with all of us thinking and breathing types, we mark the anniversary of her birth…which ironically, is the same birth date I have my facebook account. Happy Birthday Mother, the most perfect mom.
I am so “B” Rated:
Here I am again in this desolate little town/city I claim to be my haven for a long while as I am on the road and in exile both from my East Village apartment on the Hell’s Angels block in Manhattan and the dilapidated brownstone in Park Slope, Brooklyn.
Where to begin? I made a movie called EL SEGUNDO with Hank Jacobs. I and my family are an ad hock organization called Trejo Pictures. I used that name and the name of my theatre company in New York City, Coyatl Works, as the producers along with Ramblin’ Tank Productions (Hank Jacobs) of the”B”rated award winning indie digital feature filmed in South Texas and now on dvd. Our internet critic reviewed the movie and it was consistently given B grades. Thus, the phrase, “An All Around B Movie”.
I came back to Texas to work in South Texas Digital Video and create a life experience based in the promotion of Art in desolate places. So far what I am finding is that I do not have to bring Art, there are so many talented artists already in South Texas in all disciplines. Currently I am working with Osborne Paintings on LIVE ART SHOWS in Corpus Christi, TX that are held in my Jupiter Louts Art Gallery .
I just directed a stand up comedy video called
DON’T *#!@* DO IT with comedian Jeff “The queer bear “ Gayden
And I am in the process of producing and directing an EVERYDAY YOGA Series.
I am most happy to announce that our next LIVE ART SHOW will be happening simultaneously with the Downtown Art Walk on August 27th.
We will be presenting in the courtyard outside the gallery and all along the breezeway Live Painting where an artist will begin from scratch and at the end of about two hours have completed a beautiful work of Art that in turn will be raffled off to the public at the very affordable ticket price of 5 dollars. Here is a you tube video of Osborne creating something inspired by the water. http://youtube.com/hypnotizedmonkey

Director Pablo Schmidt of FARE GAME one of the entries in this year’s Corpus Christi 7 Day Film Festival which celebrates its third and most successful year offered his side of the story about the creation of a truly unique short film that had enough twists in the making as in the actual storyline.
‚ÄúMy brother in law Steve O’Malley shot out the basic idea of a cab driver who kidnaps a girl named Samantha, etc. I came up with the ending twist.
It took about 24 hours total to shoot. One 15 hour day, and one 9 hour day.
1st day: We started at 9am and we did all the cab shots. That ended at about 8 pm, where we moved over to the house and did the dinner scene in the next 4 hours.
The following day we shot the shed scenes. The “funny” part was that we had planned having all the passengers tied up for the final shot, but no one could come over except for Autumn, so we had to revise the script idea and figure how to work just her in the end.
After first day of shoot I watched all the cab footage and realized we were going to need a narration. There was not enough dialogue going on. So I mentioned this to Alan Thornburg, Cab Driver, and he quickly cam up with a basic outline for a script.
So we shot Autumn for the ending scene and the next day went to work on the edit. Alan came over and we started recording his voice over. We probably recorded 200 lines till we got each one to say the right thing and sound the right way. It was tough. The idea was to have his dialogue fill in the gaps between dialogues…
We edited about 30 hours. The last 5 were just audio tweeking. Getting the levels right.
We shot on a Sony HVR A1U, natural lighting except for dinner scene where we used a couple of Low level lights.
The last scene in the shed was lit only by the actual light bulb prop that appears. Though we did light the background, we used a blue tint to appear as moonlight when the Cab Driver walks…
We never planned out the light bulb until we went over after first day of shoot to see shed. When we got inside we saw that old “dental” magnifier and thought how creepy it was and how well it would work. I guess we got lucky. We were going to use a regular bulb as the prop, and we find this thing in the shed. ‚Äú
FARE GAME received special mention as one of the actors Santiago Villalobos was named Best Supporting Actor for the Short Film Festival where he played a Rock-N- Roller from Flour Bluff that played in a band called The Bluff Ratz. Villalobos is also in the feature “El Segundo” and “Atanasia”.
Schmidt adds, “Santiago’s lines were all ad lib. He improvised it.”
